Why your child may need dental x-rays
An exam shows the surfaces of the teeth, but many childhood cavities start between teeth where they can't be seen. X-rays let us:
- Find cavities between teeth while they're still small
- See how deep decay goes inside a tooth
- Decide whether a tooth needs a filling or nerve treatment
- Check developing adult teeth and jaw growth
How digital x-rays work
A small electronic sensor is placed in your child's mouth for a moment, and the image appears on our screen immediately — no waiting for film to develop. We can enlarge the image to look closely at problem areas and show you exactly what we see.
Safety first
Digital x-rays use up to 90% less radiation than traditional film. We take x-rays only when they will change how we diagnose or treat your child, following pediatric dental guidelines for frequency.
